Viking
foods
Viking
food could be quite varied. They were farmer and has access to all
the foods they could grow in season.
Some
of these foods could be dried for winter. Peas, beans and some vegetables
could be preserved in this way. Carrots and onions, in much the
same way as our own grandparents would have stored them.Honey
in jars kept well and fruits could be made into jams.
Cattle,
sheep and poultry would be killed as needed. Whatever joints could
not be used immediately would be smoked, dried or salted. As skilled
sailors they would have also been accomplished fishermen, with fish
providing the bulk of the protein in their diet.
Of
course having access to the sea and being traders, they would also
have access to more exotic foods including spices, walnuts, dates
and fruits.
